Ninja Warrior

This post is to tell everyone about the absolutely coolest show I've run across in a long time. We all have our Scrubs and Grey's Anatomy's that we watch and love. But just yesterday, when Abbie and the boys went out to the gym and to run some errands leaving me home alone, I found a gameshow that I know at least the guys would think is awesome.

It's called Ninja Warrior and it airs on G4TV.

Naturally, when flipping through the channels, if there's something with Ninja in the title, there's only one course of action...stop and watch it.

Ninja Warrior is a Japanese obstacle course that's a national obsession of theirs. The course has four stages to it. The first two stages are speed stages to weed out the less physically gifted. The third stage is all upper body strength and endurance and there's no time limit. The final stage has a 30 second time limit.

Each iteration of the tournament has 100 contestants, drawn from all over Japan and all walks of life, and internationally, also. I saw episodes with the Hamm brothers from the last Olympics...they were the gymnastics twins. They didn't make it. In fact, in the 10 years of the competition, only two guys have ever finished. TWO!

It's an awesome competition and usually 80 out of the 100 don't make it past the first stage.

Check out this you tube video of the last guy to finish the course and you'll get a good idea of why this show is so addicting; it's all in Japanese, so turn down the volume and just watch, learn, marvel, envy, and enjoy.

If I can figure out how to apply to this damned competition, I'm going to throw my hat in the ring (after considerable training of course). I'm considering making a replica obstacle course in our backyard...well, when we get a backyard. :-)
